The KIST Dog Face Recognition (K-DFR) System is the world's first pet identification system using AI-powered facial recognition technology.
The facial recognition system can
distinguish between
multiple
dogs of
the same breed in just
one-tenth of a second, and is capable of accurately recognizing the
faces of our furry friends in a variety of situations, such
as at different ages, when obscured by accessories, when wet, and more.
As opposed to conventional identification technologies such as tattoos or ID chips, this system is safe and non-invasive. Furthermore, the subject is not required to come in contact with any scanners for data such as nose prints to be acquired.
Along with K-DFR, KIST has also assembled a new, large-scale canine facial database by recording videos and collecting data from the web, which features dogs in various poses, in different lighting, wearing accessories, and so on.
